Mentor, Lecturer in Spanish
Mercedes Carbayo Abengózar is a Lecturer in Spanish at Maynooth University. She moved from Nottingham Trent (NTU), UK in February 2015. Her academic life has two main interests, academic research and postgraduate training. She has published extensively on the relationship between gender and the nation focusing on Hispanic writers such as Carmen Martín Gaite, singers like Concha Piquer and painters like Frida Kahlo. She has directed and examined PhD thesis both nationally and internationally. At NTU she was Programme Leader of the Research Practice Course (RPC). The RPC was a unique programme for doctoral candidates whose purpose was to provide knowledge, skills and support for postgraduate research student. She has introduced films in commercial cinemas and taught Spanish films in different venues both academic and commercial. She is currently conducting research on representations of motherhood in Spanish text.
